William Glen Harold Herrington (July 14, 1969 – March 2, 2018), known professionally as Billy Herrington, was an American model and pornographic film actor.^[4]^[5] In the late 2000s, his appearances in various gay pornography movies led him to become a popular Internet meme on video-sharing websites such as Japan’s Nico Nico Douga, where he was referred to by the sobriquet «Aniki» (兄貴, lit. «older brother»). Since then, at least 15,000 short mash-up parodies of his clips—known as «Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling» (Japanese: ガチムチパンツレスリング, Hepburn: Gachimuchi Pantsu Resuringu)—have been produced by users.^[6]

Early life and career[edit]

Herrington was born in North Babylon, New York. Herrington grew up in Long Island learning karate from his father, a sensei. He had interests in boxing, wrestling and martial arts, but did not start bodybuilding until he was 24 years old, after moving to New York City.^[4]

Herrington began his erotic career when his then girlfriend surreptitiously submitted his nude pictures to Playgirl magazine. The photographs won him a «Real Men of the Month» contest and a $500 prize.^[4] His appearance in the magazine caught the eye of famed photographer Jim French, but it was two years before Herrington posed for his first Colt calendars for French.^[4] Soon after, Herrington was filming hardcore gay adult films for All Worlds Video, and appearing on mainstream TV programs such as Love Connection and the Ricki Lake talk show.^[4]^[7] In 2002, Herrington said the adult film industry helped him to understand his bisexuality.^[5]

Among his starring roles is the Roman emperor in the Danish feature film HotMen CoolBoyz (2000). Herrington’s scene in Conquered (2001) with Nino Bacci, Colton Ford, Blake Harper, and Jay Ross won the «Best Group Sex Scene» at the 2002 Adult Erotic Gay Video Awards («Grabbys»).^[8] Occasionally, Herrington performed striptease acts at gay clubs in the United States.^[9]^[10]

Internet meme[edit]

Herrington gained fame in Japan as an Internet meme,^[11] after a clip from one of his movies, Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3, was posted on Nico Nico Douga, a Japanese video sharing website, on August 10, 2007.^[12] At least 15,000 mash-up parody videos of him have been made, many of which utilize deliberate mishearings (soramimi) of lines from his films.^[13] Most notably from Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3 and Lords of the Lockerroom. However, the scenes from the movies were heavily edited with another Japanese meme at the time with censorship «Aka-san» (赤さん, lit. mr. baby) shown in the 4th film of Billy that was excavated by the Japanese: Minute Man 18;^{[citation needed]} this would become practice on the videos on Nico Nico Douga. The soramimi reflects on several references: from Japanese commercial products to subtle references to Hawaii Five-0. Herrington is affectionately called «Pants Wrestling Aniki» (パンツレスリングの兄貴, lit. pants wrestling older brother) or «Aniki» (兄貴, lit. older brother) among the Nico Nico Douga community, and most of his videos are deliberately mistagged with «Wrestling Series» (レスリングシリーズ, resuringu shirīzu), «Forest Fairy» (森の妖精, mori no yōsei), «Philosophy» (哲学, tetsugaku), or all three.^[14]

The three most notable soramimi from Billy Herrington that comes from Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3, that would later make up the «Fairy Philosophy’s Sanshin» (妖精哲学の三信, yōsei tetsugaku no sanshin) tag, are «Huh? Like embarrassing me, huh?» (あぁん？最近だらしねぇな？, aan? saikin darashi nee na? «What? You are slacking off these days?»); «You got me mad now.» (歪みねぇな, yugami nee na, «You are not distorted.»); and «That’s not right, man.» (仕方ないね, shikata nai ne, «It can’t be helped.»).^[14]^[15]^[16]^[17]^[18]^[19]

In February 2009, Herrington visited Japan to attend a live online event hosted by Niconico and garage kit maker Good Smile Company.^[20] Herrington said that he was flattered and humbled by his fans’ creativity.^[21]^[22] A limited-edition Herrington figure was announced for a July 2009 release.^[23] Two other limited-editions Herrington action figures were announced for the Halloween and Christmas holiday. The Halloween figure was released in October 2009 and the Christmas one was released in December 2009; both are Nico Nico Chyokuhan exclusives.^[24] During his time in Japan in 2009, Herrington met Hiroyuki Nishimura, the founder of 2channel.^{[citation needed]}

In April 2013, Herrington went back to Japan for Nico Nico Chokaigi, under his own event: Billy Cruise 2. He was able to meet Nishimura again, and ZUN of the Touhou Project acclaim.^{[citation needed]}

As of February 2023, over 15,000 Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling videos had been uploaded on Nico Nico Douga alone.^[6]

In July 2022, amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a petition to the President of Ukraine regarding the replacement of the Monument to the founders of Odessa (also known as the monument to Empress Catherine the Great) with a monument to Billy Herrington received more than 25,000 votes.^[25] President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the petition and asked the Odesa City Council to discuss the demolition of the monument.^[26]

Death[edit]

During the evening of March 1, 2018, Herrington was involved in a car accident on California State Route 111 in Rancho Mirage. He was found trapped in the wreckage and was brought to a Palm Springs hospital, where he died the next day.^[11]^[27] News broke of his death one day later.^[28] Fans responded with hundreds of tributes across video sharing sites and message boards. One tribute video uploaded on Nico Nico Douga accumulated over 80,000 views in less than one week.^[6] Services for Herrington were held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cathedral City, California.^[29]

It is not known how much of Herrington’s influence affected Japan, but it led to visual novels, JRPGs, tv shows, and anime to reference Billy Herrington, and his opponent Danny Lee.^{[citation needed]}

William Glen Harold Herrington (July 14, 1969 – March 2, 2018), known professionally as Billy Herrington, was an American model and pornographic film actor.^[4]^[5] In the late 2000s, his appearances in various gay pornography movies led him to become a popular Internet meme on video-sharing websites such as Japan’s Nico Nico Dōga, where he was referred to by the sobriquet «Aniki» (兄貴, lit. «older brother»). Since then, at least 110,000 short mash-up parodies of his clips—known as «Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling» (ガチムチパンツレスリング Gachimuchi Pantsu Resuringu)—have been produced by fans.^[6]

Herrington gained fame in Japan as an Internet meme,^[11] after a clip from one of his videos, Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3, was posted on Niconico, a Japanese video sharing website, on August 10, 2007.^[12] Thousands of mash-up parody videos of him have been made, many of which utilize deliberate mishearings (soramimi) of lines from his films.^[13] He is affectionately called «Aniki» (兄貴, lit. older brother) among the Nico Nico Douga community, and most of his videos are deliberately mistagged with «Wrestling Series» (レスリングシリーズ, resuringu shirīzu), «Forest Fairy» (森の妖精, mori no yōsei), «Philosophy» (哲学, tetsugaku), or all three.^[14]

In February 2009, Herrington visited Japan to attend a live online event hosted by Niconico and garage kit maker Good Smile Company.^[20] Herrington said that he is flattered and humbled by his fans’ creativity.^[21]^[22] A limited-edition Herrington figure was announced for a July 2009 release.^[23] Two other limited-editions Herrington action figures were announced for the Halloween and Christmas holiday. The Halloween figure was released in October 2009 and the Christmas one was released in December 2009; both are Nico Nico Chyokuhan exclusives.^[24]

As of March 2018, over 110,000 Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling videos had been uploaded on YouTube alone.^[6]

Death[edit]

During the evening of March 1, 2018, Herrington was involved in a car accident on California State Route 111 in Rancho Mirage. He was found trapped in the wreckage and was brought to a Palm Springs hospital, where he died the next day.^[11]^[27] News broke of his death one day later.^[28] Fans responded with hundreds of tributes across video sharing sites and message boards. One tribute video uploaded on Niconico accumulated over 80,000 views in less than one week.^[6] Services for Herrington were held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cathedral City, California.^[29]

Все началось с того, что он (вернее его подруга, которая сделала это в тайне от него) отправил свои фотографии в обнажённом виде в редакцию журнала Playgirl, что принесло ему награду «Настоящий мужчина месяца». Его заметил Джеймс Френч. Но лично они познакомились только через два года. Джеймс предложил ему главную роль в фильме The Big One, ставшую дебютом Билли в порноиндустрии. Билли стал одной из самых выдающихся звезд гомосексуальных фильмов 90-ых. Снимался он с конца девяностых по начало нулевых (основные годы: 1999-2000). После, он стал выступать стриптизёром в гей-клубах США, а в 2008 году он объявил о завершении своей карьеры.

Билли знает о своей популярности в Японии. 14 февраля 2009 года он посетил Токио, приехав на мероприятие Nico Nico Douga в честь дня Валентина, а в июле этого же года в продаже появились ранее анонсированные им совместно с Good Smile Company (компания-производитель игрушек) фигурки Билли. Персонаж

В цикле реслинг фильмов, Билли представлен как большой и сильный человек, который не сомневается в своем превосходстве над противником. Ведет себя несколько предвзято и вызывающе к противнику, вставляя язвительные фразы касательно своей силы и навыков.

Типаж «огромного бодибилдера» более или менее присущ ему во всех картинах, хотя в некоторых (как в Playing with fire, в котором был достаточно глубокий сюжет, а не игра мускулами) он сводится к минимуму.

Patchouli Knowledge, персонаж серии игр Touhou. Обусловлена фразой Билли «ATTENTION!», которая на японский слух слышится как «Patchouli, Uh!». Одна из причин кроссоверных связей фендома с Touhou.

ASS WE CAN

Pants!

Dick

Недавно интернет заполонила новость о том, что знаменитый памятник Екатерине II в Одессе собрались заменить. На месте императрицы якобы планируют поставить фигуру звезды гей-порно Билли Херрингтона. Была даже петиция в поддержку этой акции, которую подписали 25 тыс. человек. Кто такой этот Херрингтон и правда ли его хотят увековечить?

Инициаторы петиции в поддержку памятника порноактеру утверждают, что подобный шаг будет иметь две цели. Во-первых, с одной из площадей украинского города исчезнет императрица, которая «своими действиями нанесла большой ущерб украинской государственности и культуре». Во-вторых, появится достопримечательность, показывающая всему миру лояльность украинского общества к ЛГБТ-движению.

Новость о появлении такой петиции, которую по закону должен будет рассмотреть президент Владимир Зеленский, взбудоражила пользователей сети. Несколько дней она вообще била все рекорды популярности. Далеко не все знают, почему для памятника выбрали именно Херрингтона, поэтому приняли петицию за чистую монету.

Вехи жизни и карьеры

Уильям Глен Гарольд Херрингтон, более известный как просто Билли Херрингтон, родился 14 июля 1969 года на острове Лонг-Айленд. У его отца была школа карате, поэтому мальчик с ранних лет занимался боевыми искусствами. Позднее Билли не раз говорил, что у него и в мыслях не было становиться порноактером. «Well, to be honest with ya, I’m, I’m no longer in porn, so I don’t, I don’t describe myself as a porn actor or in the porn industry, I am a carpenter. By trade and uh in the building industry, and that’s where I’m gonna remain. Uh, that segment of my life, that journey if you would, was a sexual exploration, that was uh, wonderful, I’m glad I took, and uh, I had a lot of fun doing. Uhmm, I, it was really in little increments that I had uh, started off, I started off doing print work first for uh Colt, and uh, built up my reputation through them, and then slowly and surely went into the industry. Before doing mainstream hardcore films, I did a lot of work for uh, Can-Am, wrestling films, and also uh, some body worship films. So my fan base was pretty broad, and when I was able to get into the more mainstream industry if you would. Uhmm, it really warps me, my fan base was wider and uh, I got a lotta love outta that.»

«Well, I, I’ve been working out now for primarily, especially when I was in the industry for about, a good 10 years, and it’s, it’s really funny how I got into it, uh, not a lot of people know this, but uhmm, I was actually really skinny uh, growing up as a, as a kid, and uh, I was about 20 years old and I was in love with this woman, and uh, she’d actually broken up with me for a bodybuilder, and for whatever reason, I guess ego or uh, self-esteem, I immediately found myself in the gym, and at the time I had long hair, leather jacket, a rock-and-roller, and uh, pretty soon that, that began, as soon as I hit the weights, my body just began to react, and the hair got cut, and the uh, body got shaved, and my body began to react very well to the weights, and unbeknownst to me I had genetically gifted symmetry, and uh, from there I went into, uh, few competitions uh, nothing on a national level, and uhmm, but I, I, I love bodybuilding, it’s just something that I, I fell into, and that’s the reason why I fell into it.»

«I saw progress pretty easily and, and right off the bat unbeknownst to me because prior to that I had done martial arts, I had done boxing, and most of these skills uh, although fighting, have absolutely nothing to do with building or retaining muscle, and the moment I began that process, maybe it was my background of martial arts and boxing, or the uh, dedication that I learned therein, that uh, created, created this discipline, and I, my body began to react fantastically to uh, to working out as you can see.»

«It’s, it’s something I still don’t, I don’t practice martial arts at all, and it’s, and it’s something that, really, the, the kind of martial arts that I learned wasn’t really something that you practice, it’s something that you lived, and uh, it’s something that’ll be with me for the rest of my life, uh, I learned from a very early age, since I was 5 years old, and uhmm, I put it down when I was 21, and got into uh, bodybuilding.»

«I had plenty of students as a matter of fact. Uhmm, I wouldn’t consider myself a sensei, uh, and, but I went to, I competed AAU uh, which is the Amateur Athletic Union, it’s the governing body for the Olympics, uh as a matter of fact, I, I placed 4th in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1986, in kumite in my division. Not a lot of people know all this stuff and that’s my, that’s my background.»

«Well, you know, I, it’s, it’s really hard for me to speculate that, that’s uh, really uh, an interesting question, uhmm, I would probably say that, that the, the training that it gave me was more emotional, and more spiritual, and more grounded, than it was more physical, if you would. There’s a whole other side to martial arts bushidō code if you would, and that’s, that’s the discipline, that’s the, it’s, it’s a form of respect if you would.»

«Yeah! Believe it or not immediately uh, my legs were a, were really a, uh, a weak point. Uh, I’m, I’m a tall guy, I’m 6’1″ and right now I’m about 255, but at the time at 6’1″, I’d say I was about a hundred and seventy pounds, 175 pounds, quite lanky, if you would. So it was hard for me to pack on that weight as opposed to maybe a shorter squatter, uh bodybuilder, with a shorter more compact physique, but I find though to be honest with you, over time, if you’re able to pack on that muscle, the symmetry is that much more beautiful on a larger physique, and uh, you’re less shorter and compact, and although that doesn’t work perhaps, for more, the look for more of a competitive bodybuilder today, it’s certainly work, works for aesthetically pleasing to the eye, uhmm, or at least so I’ve been told.»

«That’s, that, that’s actually how uh, (chuckles), that’s funny, that actually predates Colt. Um, I was dating a girl on Long Island and uh, it’s really funny, you don’t really see yourself as a bodybuilder, there’s a psychology behind it, and she was always supporting me and always telling how great my physique looked, and stuff, and we took some personal photos on a beach.»

«It was, no, wasn’t a new beach, but it was that day. It was that day uh, we were alone and eh, I think it was a work week and we had, you know, uh, eh, played hooky from work and stuff, and so uh, we-, it was on Long Island and we went to walk on the beaches there, and uh, with those photos unbeknownst to me, she sent them into Playgirl, and uh they have a contest called «Real Man of the Month», it’s a small little contest, it’s, it’s, you know, just girlfriends sending in photos of their boyfriends uh, all across United States, and I was a finalist and actually won, won «Real Man of the Month», and based on those photos, I uh, was sent to Jim French and Colt Magazine, and that was actually the beginning of my uh, print career for uh, male adult world.»

«I, you know what, it’s, it’s funny, I oh, I’ve, I’ve really been brought up in a very straight-laced Catholic background, but I’ve always been very comfortable uh, sexually. Um, it’s, it’s just something, that, maybe it’s, it, it is, it, maybe it is the martial arts background, a very empathetic to other uhmm, outlooks and, and other people’s perceptions, so sexuality to me is, is, is very fluid. Uhmm, and that’s why when I got into the, the industry, the adult industry, especially the, the gay in, in, industry, it was more of a journey for me, and I was exploring my own sexuality, and it was very easy for me to do that in a quote on quote «role» as Billy Herrington, and that was my image, and that was my uh, my quote on quote «game face» if you would, and what I would do is I would explore sexually uhmm, and as you can see from my uh, background in the film industry, I took things very slow. If you don’t have the ability to capture that essence or that, that, that, that, essence of manhood, at that moment in time, then really, it’s just squandered, and not only does he do that, but he’s able to do that, and, amplify it. If you would, and uh so I had a very fun time doing Colt work, and actually, flowing out to Los Angeles quite a few times. Uhmm, it was really the base of my print work and what I’m really proud of is my Colt work. Uhmm, I just think Jim French is magnificent as a photographer, and his entire staff and crew. Uhmm, I was very happy to be on the cover of a couple of his magazines. Uh, being the Colt Leather Calendar as well as uh, my own book, uh, dedicated to myself and uh, Ed Horst, and uh, that’s stuff that I’m most proud of, that stuff, to be honest with you, as I grow older, I’ll look back when I’m an old man in a rocking chair, and uh, really be able to appreciate, uh, that I was at one point a, uh, a very magnificent beautiful man, and I have Jim French to thank for that.»

Родился и вырос в Лонг-Айленде в семье учителя карате^[2]. С детства занимался боксом, борьбой и карате.

В 2016 году Билли в своём Twitter-аккаунте ответил фанату по поводу своей ориентации, что он гетеросексуал^[7].

Вечером 1 марта 2018 года Херрингтон попал в автомобильную аварию. Он был доставлен в госпиталь, где скончался на следующий день^[8]^[9], о чём в Facebook сообщила его мать, Кэтлин Вуд^[10].

Херрингтон стал одним из персонажей интернет-мема «Гачимучи» среди пользователей Интернета в странах Восточной Азии после того, как отрывок одного из его видео «Тренировка» был размещён на Nico Nico Douga, японском файлообменном сайте. О нём были сделаны тысячи «мэшап»-видеопародий, многие из которых используют преднамеренно искажённые в плане звучания строки из его фильмов^[11]. В Японии он известен под прозвищем «Big Brother» (兄貴 aniki) среди сообщества Nico Nico Douga, и большинство из видео с ним преднамеренно помечены тегами «Wrestling Series» (レスリングシリーズ resuringu shirīzu)), «Forest Fairy» (森の妖精 mori no yōsei), «Philosophy» (哲学 tetsugaku) или всеми тремя^[12].

Вдобавок, по его словам, Херрингтон имеет широкую фанатскую базу на территории Украины^[18] и сопредельных государств. Петиция собрала 805 подписей и была отклонена^[19]. 20 мая 2022 года на сайте президента Украины появилась новая петиция о замене памятника Екатерине II на памятник Херрингтону, который, по мнению авторов петиции, может стать популярным туристическим аттракционом. 12 июля петиция набрала 25 тысяч подписей и была отправлена на рассмотрение Владимиру Зеленскому^[20].
