Чернильная машина (англ. Ink Machine) — механизм, приобретённый студией Джоуи Дрю у компании Gent в серии франшизы о Бенди. Она была установлена в мультипликационной студии благодаря её директору — Джоуи Дрю и компании Gent.^[1] Уолли Фрэнкс является проектировщиком и ответственным за Чернильную машину.^[2][3]

Описание

Внешний вид

Представляет из себя механический аппарат кубической формы с трубами и шестернями. Огромная бочка с чернилами находится с задней стороны машины. Также под машиной находятся небольшое количество больших труб.

Использование

Её принцип работы схож с 3D-принтером: она точно так же переводит 2D-эскизы в их реалистичные версии. Позже при мистических обстоятельствах Чернильная машина стала создавать живые версии мультипликационных героев из человеческих душ. Джоуи Дрю желал привести мультипликационных персонажей в реальный мир, используя для этого Чернильную машину. • В четвёртой главе «Большие чудеса» Чернильную машину можно увидеть спускающейся в спиральной лестнице после того, как Генри перестанут посещать видения.

• В пятой главе «Последняя бобина» Чернильная машина появляется в конце главы, завершая свой путь, опускаясь до гигантской Чернильной машины.

The Ink Machine is Joey Drew Studios’ purchased machinery from the Bendy Franchise. The massive ink-powered machine was installed by the cartoon studio’s owner Joey Drew and the Gent Company to create living entities for the animation company.^[1] Wally Franks was the only person allowed to be the attendant to the Ink Machine.^[2][3] It is also the main plot device that’s triggering many events because of the ink that flows through the machine.

General Description

Appearance

The machine is large, square, and robust in shape. Its outside is made up of several pipes, gears, pistons, and other attachments. A giant metal barrel filled with ink is connected to the rear of the machine. There is a large nozzle connected to its front, along with long, sprawling pipes underneath. The machine is also portable, being risen up and down the studio by several large, heavy chains.

Functions

It becomes apparent that the Ink Machine functions similar to a 3D printer, in which it turns 2D sketches into realistic, physical models. Later on, the Ink Machine becomes enchanted by mysterious circumstances so that it can create living cartoon characters out of living souls. Joey Drew wanted to bring cartoons into the real world using the Ink Machine, starting with Bendy, but the process of it went wrong and caused a corrupted version of Bendy to be born.

History

Early History

Sammy Lawrence mentions that the Ink Machine was installed by Joey Drew from the time when Sammy recorded his first tape, and it started leaking, causing the stairwell to get flooded by ink over three times the month prior afterwards preventing Sammy and other workers from entering and exiting the Music Department.

The progress report of Thomas Connor to the Gent Home Office reveals that the original purpose of the machine is to use the cartoons as a template to mold life-size figures of the cartoons.

Dreams Come to Life

The Ink Machine was stolen by Joey Drew from its creator Thomas Connor (Tom) after the creation of Ink Bendy. Joey was enraged by the soulless creature and how people would react to the creature, to the point of belittling and firing Thomas for it, before subsequently firing Allison Pendle for siding against Joey Drew’s selfish judgment, though not before condemning her for disrespecting his wishes.

Bendy and the Ink Machine

• In Chapter 1: Moving Pictures, the Ink Machine can be found within the studio’s loading dock, which had been converted into a large shaft for it to be risen up and down from. In order to lift the Ink Machine up, Henry has to put both dry cells into the machine and pull the lever. After bringing the Ink Machine up, Henry’s next task is to collect six items scattered around every room of the workshop, restore the ink pressure in the projector room, then finally switch it on via a switch in the break room. Activating the Ink Machine turns out as successful, seen pouring an endless amount of ink behind the now blocked entrance before Ink Bendy appears. After Ink Bendy flees away while the first floor of the studio begins flooding and collapsing, the Ink Machine lowers back by the chains, descending to lower levels as Henry will later witness during his journey.
• In Chapter 2: The Old Song, a blueprint of the Ink Machine can be found on the office desk inside Sammy’s office, which reveals some evident pieces about how the Ink Machine was made. Later on once escaping the ritual room, if one looks to the right where there’s an ink puddle, one can see the Ink Machine being lowered with some sand sacks. After escaping from the ritual room, if walking backwards to the locked door from the ink pool to prevent Ink Bendy from popping out, Henry can hear the second Ink Machine itself running along with the whistle made from the Bendy cartoon.
• In Chapter 3: Rise and Fall, the Ink Machine can be seen being lowered if one goes into the corridor on the right in the trailer room entered by the lever task with Boris. While traversing the stairs, if you look at the upper wall at a particular descent, you can see an old model of the Ink Machine in an opening blocked off by wooden boards. This is only a display and is not used in the game for any reason. Another blueprint of the Ink Machine can be found in the small workshop located on Level P.
• In Chapter 4: Colossal Wonders, the Ink Machine can be seen being lowered at the end of the cavern just after one of Henry’s horror visions ends. The Ink Machine can also be heard within the Haunted House.

• In Chapter 5: The Last Reel, towards the end, the Ink Machine appears which it is seen being lowered to the giant Ink Machine, revealed as only a small part of a bigger mechanical complex localized in the deep caverns of the studio.
• In the epilogue, an old, realistic version of the Ink Machine can be seen in one of the rooms of Joey’s apartment. It appears to be very rusty and dirty, much smaller, and has small wheels on the bottom. Gray discs can be seen on the top left.

Bendy and the Dark Revival

The Ink Machine was later taken to Archgate Films after Nathan Arch bought the IP rights to the Bendy Franchise following Joey Drew’s death. When the machine was being moved, part of the box it was in broke open and exposed a small portion of it. One of the people moving it, Wilson Arch, noticed this and realized what they were actually carrying.

Eventually, Wilson managed to use the machine to enter The Cycle for the first time and began experimenting with the Ink in the world and created the Keepers as a result.

Later, Wilson tricked Audrey Drew into reactivating the machine in the real world and dragged her with him into The Cycle for his plan to sacrifice her. During this time, Audrey can find a note from Gent CEO Alan Gray telling Joey Drew that if his studio goes bankrupt, he and the rest of Gent will reclaim all of the technology they gave him by force of necessary, including the Ink Machine.
After killing Wilson, Audrey found another version of the Ink Machine further in Wilson’s Laboratory. It’s here where Shipahoy Wilson rises from the ink it produces and attempts to kill Audrey while cutting off her legs before he is killed by Ink Bendy.

Following the events of the game, the Ink Machine and the items for the pedestals needed to activate it are taken away by Gent in the real world to an unknown location.

Trivia

• From old updates before the release of Chapter 4, the Ink Machine had a very different model. The machine was far smaller, lacking pipes underneath it along with some amount of details, and missing the chains above.
  • The Ink Machine’s beta model found above one of the stairways is still used for Chapter 3, however.
  • The current design of the Ink Machine is revealed to be inspired by fans’ favorite parts from the beta Ink Machine in The Archives.
• Strangely, the plans for the Ink Machine V2 seen from Chapter 2 and 3 almost look, if not, identical to the beta version of the Ink Machine from older updates before Chapter 4’s release.

The Bendy franchise was inspired by the BioShock series, as both of them are set in the 20th-century and both of them have an antique style.^[1] The idea for the concept of the series came from theMeatly when he thought about a world that could resemble a cartoon sketch.^[2]

Set in retro times, the series is focuses on Joey Drew Studios, a fictional animation studio run by Joey Drew, which was responsible for numerous popular characters such as Bendy and his friends. The plot revolves around the titular Ink Machine, a mysterious machine created by Drew and the Gent Corporation in order to create living cartoons, created from the souls of Drew’s employees, and which is responsible for a ground hog loop day realm called the Cycle. Each Game has different protagonists trying to free themselves from the horrors in the ink world and against ink monsters such as the ink demon.

Characters[edit]

Bendy, the titular character of the franchise, is a cartoon demon who serves as the mascot for Joey Drew Studios. He manifests in game as the Ink Demon, the Ink Machine’s first creation, and a soulless monster which rules over the Cycle, which resets following his death. Other forms of the Ink Demon include a more benevolent cartoon Bendy and a monstrous form called Beast Bendy. The Ink Demon was the main villain of the first game and the prequel, and the overarching antagonist of the second game. Alice Angel is the female star of the Bendy cartoons, who is implied to be Bendy’s love interest. The two actresses who voiced the character, Susie Campbell and Allison Pendle, manifest as versions of Alice in the games. Susie manifests as Twisted Alice, a deformed, sadistic Alice who craves perfection, while Allison manifests as Allison Angel, a kindhearted survivor. There is also Boris the Wolf, one of Bendy’s friends, who had many clones in the Cycle, all murdered by Twisted Alice. Daniel Lewek, Joey’s former apprentice, became a kindhearted Boris named Buddy Boris. Thomas Conner, Allison’s husband and an employee of the Gent Corporation, becomes Tom, a clone of Boris with a mechanical arm. Other versions of Boris include Brute Boris, a monstrous version of Buddy Boris after being experimented on by Twisted Alice, and Borkis, a clone of Boris with glowing eyes, who serves as a secret boss in Boris and the Dark Survival.

Other ink creatures include the Butcher Gang, Bendy’s archenemies from the cartoons, who appear as recurring enemies in each game. The members include Charley / Piper, the leader of the Butcher Gang who is a primate, Barley / Fisher a human sailor, and Edgar / Striker a spider. Bendy and the Dark Revival adds a female member to the Butcher Gang called Carley / Slicer, a ghost girl. Other enemies includes Searchers and Lost Ones, former employees of Joey Drew Studios that have become trapped in the Cycle.

Each game has a different protagonist. The protagonist of Bendy and the Ink Machine is Henry Stein, an ink replica of Joey’s former partner. Buddy Boris serves as the protagonist of Boris and the Dark Survival. And the protagonist of Bendy and the Dark Revival is Audrey Drew, the Ink Machine created daughter of Joey Drew.

Other human characters include Joey Drew, the creator and CEO of Joey Drew Studios, who indirectly caused the events of the series. Joey dies prior to the events of Bendy and the Dark Revival, but an ink replica of him guides Audrey. Wilson Arch is the main antagonist of Bendy and the Dark Revival. He is the son of Nathan Arch, founder of Archgate Pictures, and has disguised himself as a janitor to take over the Cycle with his creations, the Keepers. Towards the end of the game, Wilson becomes Shipahoy Wilson, a fusion of himself and his cartoon character, Shipahoy Dudley, who was meant to replace the Ink Demon.

Other humans turned ink monsters include Sammy Lawarence, the former music director of Joey Drew Studios who went insane and started to worship the Ink Demon as a deity. It is implied through audio logs that Sammy had a relationship with Susie Campbell. Norman Polk, the former projectionist at Joey Drew Studios, was transformed into the Projectionist monster. Bertrum Piedmont, a world-renowned theme park designer hired by Joey Drew Studios, becomes a giant head fused with an amusement park ride.

The Gent Corporation are the presumed overarching antagonists of the series. The company is run by Alan Gray, an unseen character. Gent created the Ink Machine as well as other technology found throughout the Cycle.

Bendy and the Ink Machine (2017–2018)[edit]

Bendy and the Ink Machine is an episodic first-person puzzle action survival horror video game and the first installment of the series.^[3][4] The game consists of five chapters, and developed from February 10, 2017, to October 28, 2018.

Boris and the Dark Survival (2020)[edit]

A prequel to Bendy and the Ink machine was released on February 10, 2020, as part of the original game’s third anniversary, on PC and mobile platforms. Players play as Boris the Wolf from an up-top vision as he navigates his way through Joey Drew Studios, running away from Bendy.

Bendy and the Dark Revival (2022)[edit]

Bendy and the Dark Revival is the next game in the series. Bendy and the Dark Revival was released on November 15, 2022, on Steam and will release on Xbox and PlayStation on March 1.^[5] The game takes place roughly 10 years after the events of the original game and follows a character named Audrey, an animator who works for Archgate Pictures; the company that took over Joey Drew Studios after its bankruptcy. One night, Audrey is pulled into the Ink Machine by Archgate’s corruptive janitor Wilson. Audrey wakes up in the ink world, which Wilson now controls, claiming he killed the Ink Demon and that he knows the purpose of the people trapped there. Upon entering the ink world, Audrey is given special abilities that she can use to protect herself in this strange new world. She also finds a Gent Pipe to use as a weapon against Lost Ones and Searchers, and meets Allison Angel, a character from the original game. At one point, she confronts and defeats a spider-like ink monster.

During the game, Audrey meets an ink replica of Joey Drew, who reveals that the ink world is trapped in a cycle forever repeating itself. Ink Joey reveals that the ink world was created by a vengeful Joey after his business partner Henry Stein left the company, and created an ink replica of Henry (the playable character of Bendy and the Ink Machine) so he could torment him endlessly. However, Joey’s ambition changed when he met Allison Pendle, the second voice actress for Alice Angel. Having a change of heart, Joey made Allison Angel for Henry, so she could guide him when things looked dark. With a change of heart, Joey used the Ink Machine to create a living daughter, made out of flesh and ink, who is revealed to be Audrey.

Throughout the game, Audrey meets a cartoon version of Bendy. In Chapter 4, the cartoon Bendy is revealed to be the Ink Demon. Wilson eventually reveals to Audrey that he could not kill the Ink Demon, so he created a device that weakened his power and turned him into a more harmless form that would pose no threat to the ink world. Despite this, the Ink Demon constantly stalks Audrey and speaks to her. Following a battle against Twisted Alice, she reunites with Allison (who kills her evil counterpart once more) and Tom, who agree to help Audrey stop the Ink Demon and they go to find help for her.

In the finale of Chapter 5, Audrey faces off against Wilson, who requires Audrey’s soul to bring his creation, Shipahoy Dudley, to life, so he can finally defeat the Ink Demon and put a more controllable monster in his place. However, Audrey fights back and Wilson becomes trapped in Audrey’s place and fuses with Shipahoy Dudley, causing him to become violent and full of vengeance. Audrey uses her powers to kill Wilson, but without Wilson, Shipahoy Dudley becomes a mindless creature and rips Audrey’s legs off. Audrey is saved by the Ink Demon, who kills Shipahoy Dudley and drags him into the ink. With nowhere left to go, Audrey merges with the Ink Demon and turns into the monstrous Beast Bendy. Ink Joey gives Audrey the reel of «The End» (which Henry used to kill the Ink Demon, which in turn resets the Cycle) at the cost of his life. Audrey takes control of the body and, with help from Allison, Tom; Porter, an ink humanoid that Audrey met earlier; Big Steve, an ink monster controlled by Tom; and Henry, finds a projector (which is heavily implied to be the head of the Projectionist, an enemy from the first game) and shows the Ink Demon «The End», resetting the Cycle.

At the end, Audrey returns to the real world, now in control of the Cycle, and promises to make it better for her friends inside. Audrey claims that the ink world is starting to leak into the real world, as she looks to her side and sees an in-color cartoon Bendy. The after credits show Gent Corp taking the ink machine and its items to an unknown location to continue with their experiments.

Spin-offs[edit]

Bendy in Nightmare Run (2018)[edit]

A mobile spin-off, titled Bendy in Nightmare Run, was announced on January 26, 2018, and was released on Android and iOS on August 15, 2018.^[6][7] Developed by Karman Interactive and published by Kindly Beast as Joey Drew Studios Inc., the game introduces the cartoon versions of Bendy, Boris and Alice Angel in an endless running-style game, featuring four levels with a different «boss» cartoon monster, as well as collectible items and power-ups, including bacon soup cans that act as currency to buy abilities and upgrades, and possible future updates.

Animated shorts[edit]

Videos for a series of animated shorts based on the fictional works of the Joey Drew Studios company have been released from creator theMeatly’s Joey Drew Studios Inc. YouTube channel, with animation done by animator Timethehobo. The first animated short, «Tombstone Picnic», was released as part of the Chapter Three reveal trailer on August 11, 2017.^[8] The second short, «Haunted Hijinx», was uploaded on October 31, 2017, to celebrate Halloween.^[9] The third short, «Snow Sillies», was uploaded on December 24, 2017, in celebration of the holiday season. A second Christmas short, «Cookie Cookin», was uploaded on December 24, 2018, a year later after the release of «Snow Sillies». A fifth short, «Tasty Trio Troubles», was uploaded on February 10, 2019, in celebration of the game’s second anniversary. «Hellfire Fighters», a short from the game, was uploaded on March 5, 2019. A seventh short, Cheap Seats, was uploaded on December 17, 2019. These shorts largely feature Bendy and Boris, with the Butcher Gang and Alice also appearing in the fifth and seventh shorts respectively.

One of Rooster Teeth’s channels, ScrewAttack, pitted Bendy against Cuphead, the titular protagonist of the run and gun platformer Cuphead, in an animated fight on their web series, DBX, with Bendy emerging victorious.^[10]

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Dreams Come to Life is a novel written by Adrienne Kress published by Scholastic on September 3, 2019.^[11] The novel centers on Daniel «Buddy» Lewek, a Jewish teenager who is hired by Joey Drew to intern at his studio. He begins to suspect that something is wrong when he encounters the ink. The book serves as a prequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine and Boris and the Dark Survival.

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Sent From Above[edit]

The second novel, titled Sent From Above, was originally scheduled to be released on August 1, 2020, but it was removed from the schedule as Kress focused on another Bendy book, The Illusion of Living. It is yet to be confirmed a release date, but will be published by Scholastic.^[12]

Bendy: The Illusion Of Living is the second novel in the Bendy franchise written by Adrienne Kress. The novel is based on the in-game memoir of the character, Joey Drew, the founder of Joey Drew Studios. The book is told in the first-person by Joey Drew as he explains in detail about his life, his philosophy for creating animations, his techniques and the creation of his animation studio & mascot, Bendy. Bendy and the Ink Machine: The Lost Ones[edit]

Bendy and the Ink Machine: The Lost Ones is the 4th novel in the Bendy franchise. This is the fourth Bendy novel to be written by Adrienne Kress and is listed as a sequel to the first novel, «Dreams Come to Life». The novel is set in Atlantic City in 1946. The plot revolves around three new characters named Bill, Constance and Brant. The novel was published by Scholastic and was released on December 7, 2021.^[14]

A Halloween crossover mod, Hello Bendy, was released for the game on October 27, 2017, for a limited time, featuring the Hello Neighbor antagonist, who takes the role as Bendy in all previous three chapters and Sammy Lawrence for Chapter 2.^[16] The mod’s menu features the advertisement of pre-ordering the game Hello Neighbor. The mod expired by the end of October that year.

Co-creator Mike Mood has talked about wanting to do a crossover with Cuphead, which also was popular at around the same time and also uses rubber hose animation.^[17]

A prequel to Bendy and the Ink machine was released on February 10, 2020, as part of the original game’s third anniversary, on PC and mobile platforms. Players play as Boris the Wolf from an up-top vision as he navigates his way through Joey Drew Studios, running away from Bendy.

Bendy and the Dark Revival (2022)[edit]

Bendy and the Dark Revival is the next game in the series. Bendy and the Dark Revival was released on November 15, 2022, on Steam and will release on Xbox and PlayStation on March 1.^[5] The game takes place roughly 10 years after the events of the original game and follows a character named Audrey, an animator who works for Archgate Pictures; the company that took over Joey Drew Studios after its bankruptcy. One night, Audrey is pulled into the Ink Machine by Archgate’s corruptive janitor Wilson. Audrey wakes up in the ink world, which Wilson now controls, claiming he killed the Ink Demon and that he knows the purpose of the people trapped there. Upon entering the ink world, Audrey is given special abilities that she can use to protect herself in this strange new world. She also finds a Gent Pipe to use as a weapon against Lost Ones and Searchers, and meets Allison Angel, a character from the original game. At one point, she confronts and defeats a spider-like ink monster.

During the game, Audrey meets an ink replica of Joey Drew, who reveals that the ink world is trapped in a cycle forever repeating itself. Ink Joey reveals that the ink world was created by a vengeful Joey after his business partner Henry Stein left the company, and created an ink replica of Henry (the playable character of Bendy and the Ink Machine) so he could torment him endlessly. However, Joey’s ambition changed when he met Allison Pendle, the second voice actress for Alice Angel. Having a change of heart, Joey made Allison Angel for Henry, so she could guide him when things looked dark. With a change of heart, Joey used the Ink Machine to create a living daughter, made out of flesh and ink, who is revealed to be Audrey.

Throughout the game, Audrey meets a cartoon version of Bendy. In Chapter 4, the cartoon Bendy is revealed to be the Ink Demon. Wilson eventually reveals to Audrey that he could not kill the Ink Demon, so he created a device that weakened his power and turned him into a more harmless form that would pose no threat to the ink world. Despite this, the Ink Demon constantly stalks Audrey and speaks to her. Following a battle against Twisted Alice, she reunites with Allison (who kills her evil counterpart once more) and Tom, who agree to help Audrey stop the Ink Demon and they go to find help for her.

In the finale of Chapter 5, Audrey faces off against Wilson, who requires Audrey’s soul to bring his creation, Shipahoy Dudley, to life, so he can finally defeat the Ink Demon and put a more controllable monster in his place. However, Audrey fights back and Wilson becomes trapped in Audrey’s place and fuses with Shipahoy Dudley, causing him to become violent and full of vengeance. Audrey uses her powers to kill Wilson, but without Wilson, Shipahoy Dudley becomes a mindless creature and rips Audrey’s legs off. Audrey is saved by the Ink Demon, who kills Shipahoy Dudley and drags him into the ink. With nowhere left to go, Audrey merges with the Ink Demon and turns into the monstrous Beast Bendy. Ink Joey gives Audrey the reel of «The End» (which Henry used to kill the Ink Demon, which in turn resets the Cycle) at the cost of his life. Audrey takes control of the body and, with help from Allison, Tom; Porter, an ink humanoid that Audrey met earlier; Big Steve, an ink monster controlled by Tom; and Henry, finds a projector (which is heavily implied to be the head of the Projectionist, an enemy from the first game) and shows the Ink Demon «The End», resetting the Cycle.

At the end, Audrey returns to the real world, now in control of the Cycle, and promises to make it better for her friends inside. Audrey claims that the ink world is starting to leak into the real world, as she looks to her side and sees an in-color cartoon Bendy. The after credits show Gent Corp taking the ink machine and its items to an unknown location to continue with their experiments.

Bendy in Nightmare Run (2018)[edit]

A mobile spin-off, titled Bendy in Nightmare Run, was announced on January 26, 2018, and was released on Android and iOS on August 15, 2018.^[6][7] Developed by Karman Interactive and published by Kindly Beast as Joey Drew Studios Inc., the game introduces the cartoon versions of Bendy, Boris and Alice Angel in an endless running-style game, featuring four levels with a different «boss» cartoon monster, as well as collectible items and power-ups, including bacon soup cans that act as currency to buy abilities and upgrades, and possible future updates.

Animated shorts[edit]

Videos for a series of animated shorts based on the fictional works of the Joey Drew Studios company have been released from creator theMeatly’s Joey Drew Studios Inc. YouTube channel, with animation done by animator Timethehobo. The first animated short, «Tombstone Picnic», was released as part of the Chapter Three reveal trailer on August 11, 2017.^[8] The second short, «Haunted Hijinx», was uploaded on October 31, 2017, to celebrate Halloween.^[9] The third short, «Snow Sillies», was uploaded on December 24, 2017, in celebration of the holiday season. A second Christmas short, «Cookie Cookin», was uploaded on December 24, 2018, a year later after the release of «Snow Sillies». A fifth short, «Tasty Trio Troubles», was uploaded on February 10, 2019, in celebration of the game’s second anniversary. «Hellfire Fighters», a short from the game, was uploaded on March 5, 2019. A seventh short, Cheap Seats, was uploaded on December 17, 2019. These shorts largely feature Bendy and Boris, with the Butcher Gang and Alice also appearing in the fifth and seventh shorts respectively.

One of Rooster Teeth’s channels, ScrewAttack, pitted Bendy against Cuphead, the titular protagonist of the run and gun platformer Cuphead, in an animated fight on their web series, DBX, with Bendy emerging victorious.^[10]

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Dreams Come to Life is a novel written by Adrienne Kress published by Scholastic on September 3, 2019.^[11] The novel centers on Daniel «Buddy» Lewek, a Jewish teenager who is hired by Joey Drew to intern at his studio. He begins to suspect that something is wrong when he encounters the ink. The book serves as a prequel to Bendy and the Ink Machine and Boris and the Dark Survival.

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Sent From Above[edit]

The second novel, titled Sent From Above, was originally scheduled to be released on August 1, 2020, but it was removed from the schedule as Kress focused on another Bendy book, The Illusion of Living. It is yet to be confirmed a release date, but will be published by Scholastic.^[12]

Bendy: The Illusion Of Living is the second novel in the Bendy franchise written by Adrienne Kress. The novel is based on the in-game memoir of the character, Joey Drew, the founder of Joey Drew Studios. The book is told in the first-person by Joey Drew as he explains in detail about his life, his philosophy for creating animations, his techniques and the creation of his animation studio & mascot, Bendy. Bendy and the Ink Machine: The Lost Ones[edit]

Bendy and the Ink Machine: The Lost Ones is the 4th novel in the Bendy franchise. This is the fourth Bendy novel to be written by Adrienne Kress and is listed as a sequel to the first novel, «Dreams Come to Life». The novel is set in Atlantic City in 1946. The plot revolves around three new characters named Bill, Constance and Brant. The novel was published by Scholastic and was released on December 7, 2021.^[14]

A Halloween crossover mod, Hello Bendy, was released for the game on October 27, 2017, for a limited time, featuring the Hello Neighbor antagonist, who takes the role as Bendy in all previous three chapters and Sammy Lawrence for Chapter 2.^[16] The mod’s menu features the advertisement of pre-ordering the game Hello Neighbor. The mod expired by the end of October that year.

Co-creator Mike Mood has talked about wanting to do a crossover with Cuphead, which also was popular at around the same time and also uses rubber hose animation.^[17]

Глава первая: «Движущиеся картинки»

В 1963 году бывший аниматор студии мультипликации Joey Drew Studios Генри Штейн получает письмо от Джоуи Дрю — директора теперь уже закрытой студии и старого друга Генри. Генри решает починить и запустить Чернильную машину. Изучив всё, он находит изуродованный труп Волка Бориса — героя мультфильмов Джоуи. Генри ищет и собирает шесть предметов, нужных для активации Чернильной машины (гаечный ключ, музыкальную пластинку, шестерёнку, плюшевую игрушку в виде Бенди, чернильницу и книгу «Иллюзия жизни», написанную Джоуи Дрю). Генри посещают жуткие видения: он видит Чернильную машину, инвалидную коляску и Чернильного Бенди, после чего падает в обморок.

Глава вторая: «Старая песня»

Очнувшись и обнаружив себя в центре пентаграммы, Генри берёт в руки свой топор и продвигается дальше. В следующих комнатах он находит ещё больше гробов и пентаграмм, а также аудиозапись Сэмми Лоуренса — директора музыкального департамента студии. По ней можно понять, что Сэмми одержим и поклоняется Бенди. Когда Генри идёт по коридору, затопленному чернилами, он видит проходящую мимо чернильную фигуру в маске, несущую картонный вырез Бенди. Генри пытается подойти к нему, но оказывается что незнакомец исчез. Дальше он ищет три переключателя в ящиках на стене, чтобы открыть электрические ворота, после чего попадает в музыкальный департамент. Там же, в музыкальном департаменте находится лестница с выходом, но она затоплена чернилами. Нужный для слива чернил рычаг находится в офисе Сэмми Лоуренса, но вход туда тоже заблокирован чернильной протечкой. Чтобы остановить протечку, нужно найти два вентиля. В одной из урн Генри находит ключи уборщика Уолли Фрэнкса, открывающие запертую кладовку. В кладовке находится аудиозапись Сэмми, который рассказывает на каких музыкальных инструментах нужно сыграть и в каком порядке, чтобы получить доступ к его убежищу (комбинация инструментов генерируется случайно). После этого нужно включить проектор, который находится в будке киномеханика Нормана Полка, и пока работает проектор, нужно сыграть комбинацию на инструментах в зале оркестра, после чего вход в убежище Сэмми откроется. Там Генри активирует первый вентиль, после чего на него снова нападают Искатели. Пока Генри сражается с ними, некто в маске Бенди наблюдает за ним из проекционной будки. После этого Генри идёт в лазарет, где должен был находится второй вентиль, но его нет. Он спускается в канализации студии в поисках вентиля, который находится в руках у «Массивного Джека» — бывшего лирика студии Джека Фейна, ныне ставшего Искателем. В отличие от других Искателей, он не атакует Генри, а исчезает каждый раз при его приближении. Генри обрушивает на Джека ящики, забирает вентиль и ставит на место, прокручивая его. Глава третья: «Взлёты и падения»

Генри просыпается в убежище своего нового друга Бориса. Дверь выхода оттуда закрыта, а ручка от переключателя для её открытия отсутствует, что мешает Генри продолжить путь. Он варит для Бориса беконовый суп из банок, найденных в убежище, после чего Борис даёт Генри нужную ручку. Использовав её, они вдвоём выходят из убежища. По пути им встречается очень тёмный коридор, чтобы пройти через него, Генри находит фонарь. Пройдя через тёмный коридор, они попадают в тупик. Борис решает залезть в вентиляцию, чтобы найти способ открыть ворота, и Генри отдаёт ему фонарь. После открытия ворот Генри попадает в большую комнату отдыха вместе с небольшой фабрикой по производству плюшевых игрушек. Путь дальше блокируют подвесные шкафы с игрушками. Генри чинит машину игрушек, убирая из шкивов застрявшие игрушки, после чего получает возможность переместить шкафы и пройти дальше. В следующей комнате свет внезапно выключается и начинает играть песня Ангела Алисы, в конце которой оживлённая и искажённая версия Алисы с криком являет себя. Она разговаривает с Генри в темноте и исчезает, а Генри продолжает путь.
Он оказывается на развилке двух путей — Ангела и Демона, и игроку предстоит сделать выбор, по какому пути пойти. От выбора практически не меняется сюжет, но отличаются первые комнаты путей. Потом Генри встречает Бориса, который даёт ему оружие — кусок трубы.
Генри и Борис проходят через склад игрушек, чтобы пройти к лифту, нужно открыть ворота. Генри должен найти один из рычагов, пока Борис активирует второй. Когда Генри подходит к рычагу, из плаката вылезает искажённая версия Чарли (Пайпер), героя из мультфильмов студии про Банду Мясников. После победы над этим монстром он открывает ворота и они попадают в помещение с лифтом, который позволяет перемещаться между некоторыми этажами. В лифте с Генри разговаривает Искажённая Алиса, которая говорит ехать к ней, на Уровень 9. Там они оказываются в её резиденции, Генри и Борис проходят к ней через своеобразный морг. В этом затопленном чернилами помещении главный герой и его спутник обнаруживают множество истерзанных останков копий персонажей мультфильмов студии, которые стали жертвами стремления Искажённой Алисы «стать идеальной» за счёт их чернильных внутренностей. Манипулируя желанием Генри выбраться из студии, Алиса вынуждает его выполнять свои поручения, снова и снова подвергая жизнь героя опасности, что в конечном итоге приводит Генри к столкновению с Чернильным Бенди, приходящим в ярость от уничтожения ростовых фигур с его изображением, и новым монстром — Прожектористом (англ. «The Projectionist»), являющимся чернильным воплощением киномеханика студии — Нормана Полка. Не смотря на специфичность прохождения и высокий уровень угрозы протагонисту, данная глава примечательна тем, что при соблюдении определённых условий в ней можно получить автомат Томпсона^[1], а Алиса, не смотря на нестабильность поведения, оказывает протагонисту разного рода поддержку: к примеру, для его противостояния ненавистному ей Чернильному Бенди, чьё появление выдают расползающиеся по стенам чернильные пятна, она советует прятаться — для этого подходят безопасные зоны под названием «Станции Маленького Чуда», а обширный инструментарий, который она выдаёт Генри для выполнения каждого своего задания, в отдельных случаях может быть очень эффективным в борьбе с конкретными монстрами.
После выполнения всех заданий Искажённой Алисы Генри наконец получает возможность покинуть студию на лифте, однако Алиса вновь резко меняет модель поведения, сообщая, что не даст герою забрать у неё «совершенного Бадди Бориса», необходимого ей для становления идеалом, и, придя в неистовство, позволяет кабине лифта рухнуть вниз. После резкого падения лифта Бадди Борис пытается привести оглушённого Генри в чувство, не подозревая, что сзади к нему подбирается Искажённая Алиса. Генри остаётся лишь беспомощно наблюдать за похищением Бадди, после чего герой теряет сознание.

Глава четвёртая: «Колоссальные чудеса»

Глава начинается с того, что герой приходит в себя рядом со сломанным лифтом на этаже S недалеко от офиса Грант Коэна. Найдя в офисе вентиль от двери в архивы, Генри оказывается в круглой комнате, полной книг и записей (перед этим он видит группу чернильных человекоподобных манекенов возле статуи Бенди, которые не нападают; позднее они исчезают). Для входа в следующую зону нужно найти и нажать на 5 книг, открывающих секретный проход; время от времени у героя случаются галлюцинации — он на короткое время видит, что дверцы шкафов с жуткими звуками хлопают, а позднее ему мерещится множество рук, выступающих из стен. Следующее помещение — помещение с висящими клетками и пропастью посередине. Теперь нужно найти способ перебраться на другую сторону. Найдя в подсобном помещении жирного искателя, Генри забирает у него порцию густых чернил и с помощью «преобразователя чернил» превращает её в шестерёнку (среди вариантов того, что можно сделать из этих чернил — чашка, радиоприёмник и косточка; процесс создания можно повторять бесконечно, но каждая предыдущая неиспользованная вещь исчезает, когда делают новую) и при помощи подвесной платформы переезжает на другую сторону.

По пути дальше Генри слышит голос «Алисы», утверждающей, что «лучше бы он поторопился, ведь Борису так трудно оставаться целым», и в итоге он входит в комнату, полную чернильных людей — потерянные, которые не двигаются с места (один из них рыдает в углу, а ещё один бормочет, что «хочет домой» и «его обманули»). Далее путь идёт через вентиляцию, в которой за решёткой можно увидеть Чернильного Бенди. После этого Генри выбирается из вентиляции. Далее обнаруживает надпись «Поднимись наверх и увидь меня». Наверху оказываются планы и макеты парка развлечений «Bendy Land (Land зачёркнуто и написано Hell)», а также аудиозапись главного создателя этого парка — Бертрама Пидмонта. После этого открывается дверь в складское помещение 9, в котором находятся различные аттракционы, подготовленные для парка (тир, сбивание бутылок, силомер). Следующее задание — включить электричество, для чего нужно найти и нажать 4 переключателя (каждый в отдельной комнате, и эти комнаты открываются только одна за другой). В одном из помещений нужно обойти Банду Мясников, отвлекая их бросанием банок из-под супа в сторону; во втором — сразиться с Бертрамом-монстром, который предстаёт в виде огромной карусели, а в третьем нажать переключатель, при этом избегая вернувшегося Прожекториста. Во время побега от него, Генри увидит неожиданную картину: «Бенди и Прожекторист начинают сражаться и в конце первый убивает последнего, а затем просто оставляет Генри в покое».

Включив ток, Генри садится в вагончик «Аттракциона страха», который везёт его дальше. По дороге он снова слышит голос «Алисы», интересующейся, «почему он всё ещё здесь и зачем вообще пришёл», и утверждающей, что «у неё есть сюрприз». Сюрпризом оказывается появление «Бесчувственного Бориса», сильно видоизмененного Алисой Бориса, который нападет на героя. Нужно три раза ударить его куском трубы из такого же «преобразователя чернил», как в начале главы («топливо» для преобразователя — опять же густые чернила, которыми время от времени истекает Борис). После третьего удара Борис падает, превращается в лужу чернил и погибает, исчезая. Алиса в ярости бросается на Генри, но не успевает добежать до него — её со спины пронзает мачете насквозь, и она умирает. Спасителями Генри оказываются Ангел Эллисон и Томас Коннор.

Глава пятая: «Последняя бобина»

Эллисон и Том какое-то время держат Генри взаперти, причём Том ясно даёт понять, что Генри ему не нравится. Эллисон же наоборот, более лояльна к Генри. Она также рассказывает, что однажды обнаружила множество скрытых посланий на стенах, которые видно только в отражениях, и даёт ему «магическое зеркало» — застеклённую рамку, сквозь которую можно видеть эти послания (во время этого разговора Генри видит на стене позади Эллисон надпись: «Она бросит тебя умирать»). Позднее Эллисон и Том поспешно покидают убежище, так как снаружи уже поджидает Бенди, но им приходится оставить Генри. Тот освобождается, прочитав скрытое послание на другой стене и последовав его указаниям. Последовав за Эллисон и Томом, он оказывается у чернильной реки, из которой выползает «Гигантская рука». После этого Генри добирается до деревни Потерянных, где на него нападает внезапно оживший Сэмми. Исходя из его слов, можно понять, что Сэмми скорее всего перепутал Генри с Бенди. После того, как герой снимает маску Сэмми, тот в ярости толкает Генри на пол и собирается отрубить ему голову, но в итоге его убивает оказавшийся поблизости Том. Тут же из чернильных луж появляется огромное количество искателей и потерянных, с которыми Генри, Эллисон и Том вступают в сражение. Победив их, троица отправляется дальше, но Генри проваливается в яму в полу и оказывается в отделе администрации.

Чтобы продвинуться дальше, нужно починить трубы, собирая густые чернила и делая из них недостающие фрагменты при помощи уже знакомого «преобразователя чернил». Для этого нужно найти особо густые чернила, текущие из одной из труб недалеко от офиса Джоуи Дрю, что не так просто, поскольку по коридорам бродят «Банда мясников», а у героя нет оружия. Во время поисков в комнатах можно найти аудиозаписи, из которых становится понятным, что Чернильная машина была приобретена с целью создания фигур из чернил, у компании Gent; первый эксперимент прошёл неудачно, и скорее всего это был Чернильный Бенди. Починив трубы, Генри идёт дальше и оказывается в хранилище фильмов, скрытое послание в котором утверждает, что «Демон уже забрал ЭТО». Подоспевшая Эллисон пытается отговорить Генри продолжать, но тот решает закончить дело (хотя ему до самого конца неясно, почему с ним всё это происходит), и она соглашается идти с ним дальше. Обнаружив «Гигантскую Чернильную Машину» окруженная чернильной рекой, Генри уже собирается идти туда, но Эллисон утверждает, что через затопленную чернилами местность перейти они с Томом не могут, так как «капля легко теряется в океане» (отсылка к тому, что она сама и Том являются ожившими фигурами). Генри приходится идти дальше одному. Внутри он обнаруживает большое помещение с большим количеством колб, которых находятся потерянные. Добравшись до центра логово Чернильного Бенди, Генри обнаруживает небольшую комнату с множеством проекторов, показывающих фрагменты из мультфильмов про Бенди, и подобием трона в центре; рядом лежат последняя аудиозапись Джоуи и похищенная бобина с надписью «Конец». В аудиозаписи Джоуи признаётся, что после ухода Генри всё пошло под откос; билеты на мультфильмы стали плохо продаваться, работники стали увольняться, и в результате студия закрылась, а в ней остались лишь «тени прошлого». Начинается финальная битва. После непродолжительной погони по коридорам Генри заманивает Зверского Бенди в зал с четырьмя стеклянными колоннами, заставляет демона разбить их, возвращается в логово и ставит в проектор найденную бобину. Бенди вбегает в помещение, но поздно: все проекторы отображают один и тот же кадр — финальный титр «Конец», и Чернильный демон умирает.

Генри оказывается в квартире Джоуи и находит в одной из комнат доску с приколотыми письмами и заметками, в которых упоминаются многие персонажи игры. Сцена после титров: показывается рисунок Генри, изображающий мультяшных Бориса, Бенди и Алису, с подписью: «Поздравляю с успехом! Твой лучший друг, Генри Штейн», и детский голос говорит: «Расскажи ещё одну историю, дядя Джоуи».

Разработка и выпуск

Bendy and the Ink Machine была разработана и издана компанией Kindly Beast (Joey Drew Studio Inc)^[2]. Bendy in Nightmare Run — мобильный спин-офф по франшизе про Бенди. Игра официально вышла 15 августа 2018 года в Google Play и App Store. Разработкой игры занимаются Karman Interactive.

Геймплей схож с остальными играми в жанре «runner», например такими как Temple Run и Subway Surfers. Новая игра

. . Bendy and the Dark Revival — новая игра от TheMeatly и Майка Муда по вселенной Бенди. Подтверждено, что игра не является сиквелом или приквелом к оригинальной игре, скорее всего, события в ней будут происходить параллельно событиям Bendy and the Ink Machine, однако в 2021 году Митли подтвердил, что эта игра будет сиквелом. Как и прошлая часть игра разрабатывается Joey Drew Studios Inc. О ней впервые было объявлено в видео, которые было опубликовано 10 февраля 2019 года, во вторую годовщину выпуска игры Bendy and the Ink Machine. 14 апреля вышел трейлер игры в котором впервые было показано название игры. Изначально первая глава этой игры должна была выйти осенью 2019 года, но 13 декабря 2019 года разработчики заявили, что игра переносится на 2020 год. Однако в 2020 году игра не вышла и разработчики заявили что игра переносится на 2021 год.
